It looks like I’ve been absent awhile…but really, I’m now at Yarnovations.com.

Why the relocation? I’ve joined forces with my twin sister! I’ve finally convinced her to switch hobbies from paper crafting to crochet. We are known as the Yarn Twins online and have a website called Yarnovations.com.

A group of us decided to re-purpose an old yarnbomb that we took down. The Business of Arts Center in Manitou Springs, CO requested some work on their site. Our fearless group leader mapped out a plan and a group of us sewed squares together. The “color wheel” of sorts went on the stairs while the multicolored squares cozied some trees. It took a group of four two days to put them all together. Thankfully all the squares were knit/crocheted
ahead of time!

Security Camera

Mini Organizer

This crocheted mini organizer is perfect for home or the office. The right size for paperclips, buttons, pens, pencils, scissors and other small items, cardboard keeps the shelf sturdy and wire helps the drawers maintain their shape. A few buttons and a butterfly embellishment and this is functional and adorable. Available in the store for $1.99 USD, the pattern for this crocheted mini organizer includes step by step instructions and many pictures. Finished size, 10 inches wide, 6 inches tall, 4.5 inches deep.

I asked my husband if he wanted this for his desk at work. He said he too much stuff on his desk already. I offered to make one in black, white and red with skulls. He still wasn’t interested. Oh, well. This will actually be perfect for keeping my crochet supplies organized.

One-Eyed Plant

This one-eyed plant is perfect for keeping an eye on things at home or at work. I originally designed it for my husband, the plant assassin. He has managed to kill every plant he has had in his office! The one-eyed plant pattern is for sale in the store for $1.99 USD. It is a quick and easy pattern using mostly single crochet though you will also need to know how to do a half double, double and treble crochet as well as slip stitches (US terminology). It is approximately 10 inches tall when finished and the eye and leaves can be positioned any way desired so long as wire is inserted. I put a chopstick in the stem so it would stand up tall. Popcorn in the pot helps it stand by itself. This pattern calls for a size H hook and medium worsted weight yarn. Red Heart yarn is pictured.

Rocket Ship

In keeping with the space/alien theme for my friends who are foster parents, I decided to make a rocket ship. I followed Rikkas pattern . The blog is in German, but there is an English version of the pattern available there. This ended up being a quick and easy pattern that was also a lot of fun. The white yarn I used is thinner than the other colors so I used a larger hook for that (J/10/6mm) otherwise I used a size H (8/5mm) hook for everything. The brain slug I made up as I went.

A friend recently went through the process to become a foster parent and said she is low on toys for the various aged children that come to the house. She requested some hand crocheted toys. Here is the first toy I made for her. After I finished it, I thought perhaps a brain slug is not the best idea! They are alien parasites that take control of the people to whom they attach! What are the chances that the children will know that? Half my family never heard of a brain slug before! It will make a fun plush toy anyway. The eye and antennas were crocheted separately and sewn on. I didn’t follow a pattern. It was made with a size H hook and Red Heart yarn.

Panda Baby Hat

The panda is now classified as a bear again! What a shocker. They seems so adorable and cuddly, just like newborn babies. What better way to keep the little ones warm than with little panda hats of their own?

This panda baby hat is made with two strands of yarn crocheted at the same time. It could also be done with bulky yarn or with one strand of medium worsted weight yarn and one strand of fun fur. The ears, eye spots, nose and snout are all crocheted separately and sewn on. Even so, this is a quick project.

Skull Caution Flag

My husband requested a skull and crossbones caution flag for the bike rack that extends out behind our vehicle. My husband doesn’t make many knit/crochet requests, so I got right on this one! Using the skull pattern from my Skull Cap for Logan, I added a couple of stitches on the sides and several extra rows on the top and bottom.

The yarn is a bulky yarn from the stash my mother-in-law gave me. She wasn’t using it, and originally I wasn’t sure what on earth I’d use the red for! When people see this caution flag they will be sufficiently warned! Hopefully they won’t decide to drive up close to get a closer look!

Baby Aviator Hat

With this pattern, your little one will be flying high in no time! This is an adorable and quick hat to crochet, especially since it is crocheted with a large hook and with two strands of yarn at the same time. It could also be crocheted using bulky yarn instead. I designed this pattern so I could take some more fun hats to the Army hospital in town.
